Obituary

Betty Sue Long-Umfress passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the age of 90. Betty was born on July 13, 1935, in Palestine, Arkansas, to Arthur Dewey Long and Cassie Elma Darby-Long. In June 1954, she married the love of her life, James Umfress, and shortly afterward, they moved to Yuma to put down roots and raise their family. Betty was a member of Morningside Baptist Church in Yuma. She worked many years as a buyer for Curtis, Woodman, and Roach and Fruit Growers Supply Company. Betty is survived by her husband, James, of almost 72 years; her daughter, Debbie Bedoya (Mike); three grandchildren, Michael Tyler Bedoya (Regina), Bryan Patrick Bedoya (Tayler), and Barbara Sue Brown; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, 9 siblings, her son Mike Umfress, and grandson Jimmy Umfress. What a joyous reunion it must have been when they greeted her at the gates of heaven that morning. We would like to thank all of the Caregivers and staff at River Valley Memory Care and Hospice of Yuma which cared for her. We could not have made it through mom's illness without your compassion and knowledge.

Graveside services will be held Monday, March 30th at 10 AM at Desert Lawn Cemetery.
