Charles Ervin
High
Dec 9, 1946 — Jul 17, 2025
Yuma
Chuck was born at home in Roseburg, Oregon to Eber and Minnie High on December 9, 1946. After a courageous 5-year battle with thyroid cancer, he died at home in Yuma, Arizona on July 17, 2025. He was 78 years old.
He grew up in northern California, graduating from Yreka High School in 1965. In the midst of the Vietnam war, and as a single father, he enlisted and served 6 years domestically in the Army National Guard at Fort Ord, achieving E-4 rank. He spent the rest of his career in the auto parts industry where his sharp memory allowed him to recall part numbers from hoses to carburetors for vehicles large and small.
But his life was defined by his family, friends and projects. His grandkids remember him as a "fun grandpa," taking them out fishing and camping. Among his many projects were a completely restored Hudson Terraplane – from junkyard into an award winning street rod – a Roman soaking pool he built from scratch, and the lovingly renovated turn of the century bungalow he shared with Sally in Boise. If it had wheels or a roof, he could fix it! He was also famous for his breakfasts, especially biscuits and gravy, and loved cooking for family or his camping pals.
A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, he will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his parents Eber and Minnie, his wife of 35 years Sally High, and grandson Corey James High. He is survived by his wife Jeannette Armstrong; daughters Gina Valentino, Kim High (Ryan Toombs), Holli High Woodings (Ryan), Susan Owens (Patrick), Denice Ostolasa (Robert); grandchildren Chanda Estrada (Pedro), Blake Littlefield (Joycee), Carolyn Mintmier (Ari Wright), Mary and Arthur Woodings; and great-grandsons Adrian, Aidan, Jaxson and Zane.
