Daryl was born on April 23, 1941 growing up in California. He joined the Navy, served three tours in Vietnam, retired in 1979 after 20 years and most importantly met his wife, Elizabeth Duke (nee. Polk) in 1968 while both were stationed at Andrew's Air Force Base. Daryl and his family moved to Yuma, Arizona after he retired.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Duke. His daughters: Kristine Duke (Vince Swing) and Shannon Duke-Wingerter (Christopher). He leaves behind seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Hannah Swing, Khloe Duke, Sarah Swing, Austin Duke, Autumn Wingerter, Abigail Wingerter, Adam Swing, Anthony Duke and Grant Swing. He also leaves behind two-brother in laws: William and David (Lucille) Polk and a sister-in law Pat Piburn (Raymond) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

The family is planning a private memorial to remember his life. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Humane Society of Yuma.
