Obituary

-     Douglas Trabue was born on 1/26/1947 in Phoenix, AZ to Robert Walter Trabue and Betty June Trabue. He went to North High School where he played football and baseball.

-     In 1965, he graduated North High school and at 17 years old with written consent from his mother, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He left for bootcamp in San Diego, CA Marine Corps Recruiting Depot San Diego. After graduation from bootcamp and went to ITR at Camp Pendleton, CA. He went to Memphis, TN for further testing and afterwards sent to Ordnance School in Jacksonville, FL.

-     Upon graduation from ordnance school, he was sent to Cherry Point, NC for hazardous substance school and nuclear weapons handling school. After completion of both schools, he was sent to Camp Pendleton, CA for advanced combat school and escape and evasion school. After completion of both schools, he was shipped to the Republic of Vietnam, being based out of Chu-Lai at the MAG-12, MABS-12 bomb, missile, and small arms assembly area.

-     He returned to the United States in August of 1967. He reported to Marine Corps Air Station Yuma in September. His duty assignment was to the Weapons Section, gunnery and bombing ranges. He took the job of crew chief/hop (air) controller. He held the job until he discharged in 1969 as an E-4 Corporal.

-     Doug entered civilian life as a driver/salesman for Haines and Son Distributing in Yuma, AZ. He drove semi-trucks from Yuma, AZ to Golden, CO and back full of Coors beer. He worked there until 1972.

-     While working for Haines and Son Distributing, he became interested in law enforcement in the Yuma area. He joined the Yuma Police Reserves this year.

-     Doug left Haines and Son Distributing to go to work for the City of Yuma Police Department. He worked as a police patrolman until 1977. During that period, he attended several schools concerning patrol work. In 1975, he joined the newly formed S.W.A.T team the City of Yuma Police Department and the Yuma County Sheriff's Office jointly started. Doug was one of the original members of the City/County S.W.A.T. team and was given the opportunity to go to Quantico, VA F.B.I. Academy for Special Weapons training. He was involved in three successful operations for the department. He stayed with the team until 1977 when he transferred to the traffic division on the motorcycle. At the time, the department allowed only one specialty assignment per officer.

-     Doug and Rachel Lopez married on January 5, 1977. He met Rachel while she worked as a reserve for the City of Yuma Police Department. Her father, Encarnacion Lopez, retired as a Sergeant serving the City of Yuma Police Department from 1950 to 1970. On joining the Traffic Division, Doug was sent by the City of Yuma Police Department to the Department of Public Safety Motor Officer's school in Flagstaff and in Phoenix. Upon his return to Yuma, he became a traffic officer and accident investigator.

-     The department sent him to the Vehicle Accident Investigation Reconstruction school at Arizona State University for reconstruction of traffic accidents.

-     Doug and Rachel had their son together on June 7, Robert E. Trabue, who would go on to work for the City of Yuma Police Department in 2000 as a patrolman. Doug left the City of Yuma Police Department in October of 1979 for employment with the Southern Pacific Railroad as a Switchman/Brakeman.

-     Doug was cutoff early in 1980 due to slow work. There was need for his work in Houston, TX so he left Yuma to work there. He came back to Yuma but then he was still cut off so he went to work for a security company at the Yuma Proving Ground. He was hired as the Field Director, holding the rank of Lieutenant. In November, he started work with some attorneys in Yuma, AZ as a paralegal adviser/investigator. As the work at Southern Pacific became busier, he worked as much as he could.

-     From April to September, Doug worked steady for the Southern Pacific in the yard in Yuma. When he got cut off again in September, he went to work for Yuco Gin Incorporated as a driver at the cotton gin until the season was over at the end of the year.

-     Doug and Rachel had a daughter on February 18, Deana M. Anderson (Trabue) who would go on to work for the City of Yuma Police Department as a dispatcher in 2000. Doug went to work for Brian E. Smith, Inc. as an accident reconstructionist. Whenever Southern Pacific would call, he would work as a switchman/brakeman. In October, he went to work for Yuco Gin again until the close of the season in 1983. He also worked on the weekends at the railroad.

-     Doug tested for and was hired on as a Southern Pacific Railroad Special Agent. Doug worked there for the next 24 years. He saw the merging of Southern Pacific into Union Pacific. He worked hard as a special agent patrolling the rail yards in Yuma. He helped establish partnerships with all the local law enforcement agencies to include the City of Yuma Police Department, the Yuma County Sheriff's Office, the United States Border Patrol, the Yuma City Fire Department, Rural Metro, AZ DPS, F.B.I., CBP, USMS, USMC and countless others. He was cross trained and certified as a state and federal agent. Many times, his shift allowed one Special Agent to cover from San Bernardino, CA to Gila Bend, AZ protecting the railways and the cargo on the trains. What greatly assisted him was the opportunity to become a canine handler in 1992. His first canine Bear was a German shepherd and served with him until early 2000's. Doug was assigned a second canine who he named Gary after Gary Maas. He retired Gary in the mid 2000's. Both dogs tracked, detected drugs and were bite certified. Many calls were made by other agencies for being a backup on fights, searching for missing people, and clearing buildings as a result and if Doug was in town, he and the canine would answer the requests hastily.

In 2002 Bobby married Beth and they had two daughters, Holly Marie Trabue, born in 2002, and Madilynn Grace Trabue, born in 2004, and a son, Owen Douglas, born in 2007.  Deana married Mike Anderson in 2003 and they had two daughters, Abigale Marie Anderson, born in 2004 and Alayna Rose Anderson, born in 2006 and a son, Mason Paul, born in 2013.

-     Doug suffered a massive stroke in August of 2007 and would remain left side paralyzed. Rachel faithfully took care of him and remained by his side. He was very proud of all of his grandchildren and was very excited to see them all at gatherings.

-     Doug passed away on 4/26/2021 leaving behind his mother, Betty June Trabue, his sister Sherri Punchios, his wife Rachel Trabue, son Robert Trabue, daughter Deana Anderson, daughter in law Beth Trabue, son in law Michael Anderson and the six grandchildren.
