Obituary

Glenn LeRoy "Roy" Cavanaugh

Roy went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 3rd, 2023. He was born in Seattle, WA to Glenn Wesley Cavanaugh and Victoria Elizabeth "Betty" Johnson Cavanaugh on July 3rd, 1938.

He was raised in Seattle and spent many weekends fishing for salmon with his parents.

He graduated from Franklin High School in 1956. He served in the U.S. Army and then graduated from University of Washington in 1962. In 1967, he earned his Master of Arts in Math and Computer Science from Western Michigan University.

Roy taught math and computer science and chaired the math department at Rainier Beach High School in Seattle, WA from 1962 to 1994 when he retired and moved to Yuma, AZ.

Roy was active in the community, serving leadership roles in church, the Moose Lodge and serving on the Sunset Health Board for ten years. He was an avid golfer and many mornings you would find him playing at least 9 holes. He returned to teaching math at Arizona Western College for eight more years in 1996.

1997 he married Barbara and life became busy with kids, grandkids, great grandkids and travel. We were blessed with many wonderful friends and our cruise travel partners, Kathy and BJ (Barb's sister and brother-in-law).

Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife Susan Cavanaugh, and his aunt Alice Goble.

He is survived by his wife Barbara and step-children, Eric (& Angela) Hartfelder – Amarillo, TX, Erin (& Jennifer) Hartfelder – Puyallup, WA, Darin (& Brigette Gallus)  Kelly – Tucson, AZ, Wendy Hartfelder (& Joe Martin) – Sammamish, WA, and Megan (& George) Workman – Yuma, AZ.

Roy and Barbara have 9 grandchildren, Susan, Michaela & Liam Hartfelder (TX), Josh (& Ana), Alyssa & Kyle Segura (Yuma), Samantha Workman (Yuma), Freya Hartfelder (WA) and Delilah Martin (WA).

They were also blessed with 3 great-grandchildren, Ana Litzia & Ana Leah Segura and Dominic Tapia.

He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, leader, facilitator and educator. He touched many lives and was a steady, constant and positive force. Roy will be dearly missed.
