Obituary

On Tuesday, September 7, 2021, Homer Lawrence Himes, loving father and grandfather, passed away at his granddaughters home in Mesa, AZ, of natural causes, with loved ones around him.

Homer was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on January 22, 1935 to Ana Jo Hofman and Clessie Aldwin Himes. He joined the United States Marines at age 17 and served proudly for 8 years, including service in the Korean War.

On June 16, 1956, Homer married the love of his life, Doris Fay Harless, in Norwalk, CA. They had 6 children together: Terry, Esther, Margaret Jo, Elizabeth, Belle, and Larry. Margaret Jo and Elizabeth went to heaven at a very young age.

Homer worked hard his entire life. After the Marines, he was a Master Automotive Mechanic for 30 years at Whitey's Auto Shop in Scottsdale, AZ until his retirement in 1997. He then worked at Trius Construction for 10 years with his long time friend, David Snodgrass, and then an extermination company before heading to the Imperial Sand Dunes in CA to serve as a camp host for 8 years or so. Homer lived in Yuma, AZ the last few years with his daughter Esther and Son-In-Law Mark after leaving the sand dunes position.

Homer lived for his grand children, great grand children and his puppy dogs. He never missed a sporting event or passed on an opportunity to take the kids 4 wheeling, camping, or fishing. He loved hunting, shooting and doing anything outdoors. He never met anyone he wouldn't strike up a friendly conversation with and he would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was stubborn, crotchety, and argumentative but he was kind and loving too. He had a wild sense of humor that made everyone laugh. He was a great man that will be truly missed.

Homer was preceded in death by his wife Doris, parents Clessie and Ana, step-mother Francis Robles, daughters Margaret Jo and Elizabeth Fay, sisters Zelithia Zanona "Wiffie" (Moore) and Eva Lucille (Couture). He is survived by his sisters Ana Jo (Borneman) and Sylvia Marie (Mickley), his brother Raymond Aldwin, sister in law Margaret Rollins (Holmes), brother in law John Couture, his children: Terry Eugene (Connie), Esther Louise (Mark Cawood), Belle Denise (Joseph Nunnally), Larry James (Theresa), his grandchildren: James, Jennifer, Joshua, Amber, Autumn, Kasandra, Hector, Blake, Robert, Larry Jr., and Christopher and his great grandchildren: Emma, Jack, Gabrielle, Cody, Madison, Dana, Kennedy, Jackson, Ares, Trinity, Jayden, Lilyana, and Xavian, nieces, nephews and a great many friends.

A celebration of life will be held on October 23, 2021 @ 2pm at Fain Lake Park in Prescott Valley, AZ.
