Obituary

IVAN J. MAHAYDIK

SEPTEMBER 9, 1922 – APRIL 18, 2021

On Sunday morning, April 18 th , 2021 Ivan Mahaydik was called home to our Lord at the young age of 98. He was at home in Yuma, Arizona surrounded by family.

Ivan was born in Cleveland, Ohio to John and Elizabeth Mahaydik. As a child Ivan loved to play hockey and baseball – both of which he excelled at! His dream job was to be an Air Force Pilot but due to an old hockey injury he instead proudly served as a Gunnery Instructor during  World War 2. Luckily his life was spared and his discharge landed him in Yuma, Arizona. After settling in Yuma he married his first wife Elizabeth (Betty) McGrew. He was employed by the Bureau of Reclamation and then later at Wellton Mohawk Irrigation as a superintendent of power and pump. Ivan retired in 1988. After Betty passed away in 1983, Ivan met and married Ruth Noel. Ivan and Ruth moved to Show Low, Arizona in 1990 and lived there until 2015. They returned to Yuma to be closer to their family.

Ivan was gifted in carpentry and wood working – specializing in intricate clocks. He was an avid hunter and fisherman which is why Show Low was such a perfect fit for him. He was dedicated to his church especially in the music department. Ivan was blessed with a beautiful voice and sang both baritone and bass. While living in Show Low he was very active in Barber Shop and the White Mountain Choral.

Ivan is proceeded in death by his parents; his first wife Betty; daughter Marsha; Sister Emily and her husband Steve; and brother-in-law Dwight.

Ivan is survived by his wife Ruth; son Matt (Angie), daughters Mari and Susan; sister Betty Penney and many grand children and great grandchildren whom he loved dearly.

Ivan was a dedicated and loyal man who loved his Jesus. As he was making his final journey along side his family – he told us all "the secret to life is to go in the right direction". Until we see each other again…our dear Ivan.
