John (Jack) Boyd joined the brotherhood of the heavenly angels on December 23, 2015, in Yuma, Arizona with his devoted wife and loving son by his side. He was 75 years old. After a courageous battle, John died of COPD and CHF and was under the care of Hospice of Yuma. John was born February 1, 1940 in East Detroit, Michigan (now known as East Pointe) to Ralph and Mae Boyd. John attended East Detroit High School. After graduating in 1957, John served in the Army from 1958 to 1964, with a tour of duty in Korea. John was fortunate to meet the love of his life, Karen on October 10, 1964, he married Karen at St. Leonards in Warren, Michigan and they made a home in Warren. They had two sons, Kevin and Larry. After a few years, they built a home in Armada, Michigan. John loved his 37 year career as an electrician, and was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. When work began on the Trans-Alaksa pipeline project in the mid 1970's, John embraced the opportunity for adventure and began working as an electrician on the pipeline. In 1982, his family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, and called that home for the next couple of decades. Upon retiring from the IBEW, John and Karen began traveling in their RV through the Northwest and Canada, along with visiting Southern California, Nevada and Arizona. They fell in love with the people and atmosphere of Yuma, and they chose to settle there in 2002. Since then, they have enjoyed a strong social network of friends and neighbors in Rancho Rialto. John was a 50 year member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles; he was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Yuma, AZ Lodge 1627. He enjoyed snowmachining, fishing (including ice fishing), bowling, softball, and laughing with friends and family. We will always remember his handsome smile and his generous nature; he was a very giving person. John is preceded in death by his parents and by his beloved son, Larry. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Karen; son and daughter in law Kevin and Natalie Boyd of Katy Texas; beautiful granddaughters, Sydney and Cameron Boyd, also of Katy, Texas; brother and sister in law William (Bill) and Judy Boyd of San Diego, California; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Dr. Abdulkadir Hourani and Staff at Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC) Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, and the staff of YRMC 2nd floor for their care and support. They would also like to thank Hospice of Yuma, especially Ernie, for his excellent care. No services are planned; Sunset Vista will handle cremation. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, American Lung Association or to a charity of your choice.
