Joseph Allen Lowndes Sr., 79, of Yuma, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2020, at his residence in Yuma, AZ. He was born April 9, 1940 in San Diego, California, to Joseph and Ruby Lowndes. Joseph was a Retired Letter Carrier and a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers Retiree and a Health Benefits Representative. He was also, a member of the Yuma Apostolic Assembly Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Ruby Lowndes.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Sara P. Lowndes; and his Sons Joseph Lowndes, Jr., John (Heidi) Lowndes, Sr.; Daughters Sara (Jim) Bails, and Stella Lowndes; Grandsons John Jr. and Joseph Lowndes, Sam and Daniel Elias, and Craig Bails; Granddaughters Michele and Lisa Lowndes, Saralyn Elias and Jamie Bails; and 2 Great-Grandchildren John III and Lilli Lowndes.

Joseph was fun loving man who enjoy and loved Southern Gospel music, crossword Puzzles, and shocking people who didn't readily remember him by quoting their addresses back to them _all because his 33 years as a mailman. He was definitely one in a million. He was very proud of his job.

"Grandpa Lowndes" had a servant heart. He gave of himself in coaching baseball from the time his sons were eight years old in Little League, until they finish their years of Babe Ruth Baseball. He served his church in a variety of ways, including serving as church secretary/treasurer, volunteer musician and a youth Sunday School teacher. But above those opportunities to serve, he loved preparing Easter breakfast for the whole church.

He served many people who needed help with "paper-pushing" tasks such as tax preparation, notarization, helping people fill out college applications, retirement information, and the like.

He was a man who taught his children and grandchildren to live lives to love and serve others, to take responsibility and own mistakes, and to work hard and fight for what is right.

"Grandpa Lowndes, your smile and constant encouragement will be missed here on Earth and welcomed in the heavenly angel band".
