Judy Bakara, age 81, resident of the Yuma Foothills for 22 years passed away July 9, 2024, of a brain hemorrhage. She was born August 25, 1942, on the Iron Range of Virginia, Minn., to Julius and Agnes Zbasnik.

Judy worked as a hairdresser, secretary, apartment manager and eventually moved into the commercial insurance business which became her career. She retired from being an insurance CSR after 30 years. While working as the manager at the South Bay Club, a swinging singles apartment complex in Mountain View, California, she met Barney Bakara, a U.S. Navy submariner who was attached to a special program at Moffett Field. After a 9-month romance they wed in Carson City, NV on March 5, 1971. Soon after, Barney was transferred to San Diego where they would spend the majority of their careers and marriage and where their son Jon was born. With Barney 's Naval career, the family spent tours in Washington, DC., New London, CT., and Guam.

She is survived by her husband, Michael (Barney) Bakara; son, Jon; brother, Jeff and his wife Sue, and nephews, Keith and Chad.

Services will be held at 11:00 am, July 26, 2024, at the Sunset Vista Funeral Home, Yuma Foothills. Reception to follow at the Moose Lodge, 13441 S. Frontage Rd., Yuma Foothills.
