Obituary

Kathryn Josephine Hayes

1930-2026

Kathryn Josephine Hayes (Kildow), lovingly known as Kathy, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, in Yuma, Arizona. Born on January 10, 1930, in Hoxy, Arkansas, she lived a remarkable 96 years filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Kathy was the daughter of Clarence and Sophia Kildow, who predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her beloved sons James and Charles Poland. Despite these losses, Kathy's life was enriched by the love of her surviving family. She is survived by her son Val Poland and his wife Teresa; her grandchildren Shannon Yancey, Michell Olmos, Cyndi Calvillo, Heather Whaley, Eva Rangel, Bridget Poland, Jacqueline Poland, and Chad Poland; her great-grandchildren Lexy, Skyler, Sevastian, Kylie, Hailey, Ayden, Anthony, Breahna, Avery, Mateo, Keira, Avigail, Isabelle, Drysten, Lilith, Roxy, Zoey, and Ivy; and her great-great-grandchild Oakley.

Kathy had a zest for life that was truly inspiring. She was an independent free spirit who embraced every opportunity to socialize and make new friends. Her sharp wit and quick humor made her a captivating storyteller who could light up any room with laughter. Kathy's adventurous spirit led her to seek out new experiences throughout her life while remaining deeply devoted to those she loved.

She spent over a decade in the Desert Rose Community, making new and long lasting friends. A woman of many talents and passions, Kathy found joy in gardening and took pride in nurturing vibrant blooms that reflected her own lively personality. She also loved playing bingo—a pastime that combined her social nature with a bit of friendly competition. Perhaps most uniquely of all was her role as an avid "chicken whisperer," a testament to her ability to connect with all living things.

Above all else, Kathy loved her family fiercely. Her legacy lives on through the generations she nurtured with care and devotion. Those who knew Kathy will remember her as a woman who lived life on her own terms while always making time for others.

May Kathryn Josephine Hayes' memory bring comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
