Flagstaff
LaVerne Margaret McIntosh, 91, passed away on April 23, 2022 in Flagstaff, Arizona.
LaVerne was born in Ripley, Oklahoma on November 10, 1930 to Noah and Stella Craig. Her first years of life encountered the hard times of the Great Depression and Dust Bowl.
The family moved to Oregon in the mid-1940s and lived in West Salem. She attended Salem High School while living in West Salem.
LaVerne married Clarence E. (Eldon) McIntosh Jr. on November 19, 1948 and moved to Newberg, Oregon where she graduated from Newberg High School. They were married over 55 years until his death on March 8, 2004. They began their married life living in Newberg. Eventually, the settled in Portland, Oregon with the purchase of their first home. They returned to Newberg, several years later and continued to live there until relocating to Yuma, Arizona in 1994. LaVerne moved to Flagstaff, Arizona to live with her grand-daughter, Tammy Dukes, in 2016.
During her life, LaVerne worked as a grocery clerk; a seamstress for Jantzen clothing company in Portland; at Madison High School cafeteria in Portland; and working in circuit board production and later quality assurance at Tektronics in Beaverton, Oregon. Before moving to Yuma, she worked in retail at BiMart in Newberg, after retiring from Tektronics.
LaVerne was passionate about her family genealogy work and hobby during her retirement years. She enjoyed family vacations and later in retirement traveling with her husband in their motor home. She was an excellent cook and baker. LaVerne created wedding cakes for several family members; baked special cakes for family birthdays; and, she always made family members feel special, when they visited, by cooking or baking their favorite meal or dessert. She shared her recipes and knowledge with family members. Family dinners were special. The dinners were followed by board games and card games with a lot of laughter and fun. She loved to sew and in her younger years made clothes for her children and other family members. LaVerne also played the piano and her children remember listening to her play while growing up. At one time during their marriage, Eldon and LaVerne were in a square dance club; and LaVerne made the square dance clothes they wore to the dances. Playing bingo was another special interest of LaVerne.
She is survived by her children, James McIntosh (Judy), Martin McIntosh (Lisa), and Marla McIntosh-Montgomery; seven grand-children; nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
