February 20, 1936 - January 31, 2024 Leroy "Gene" Young was born on February 20th, 1936, to Marge and John Young, in Santa Monica California. Growing up surrounded by siblings Don, Linda, Ken, and John. The family traveled from Los Angeles and Idaho to start a new endeavor in Pilot Hill California. Pilot Hill was where young Gene flourished, spending his time roaming the hills on his horse. In his travels Gene got to know the families within the rural town and started working for the local Bayley Family; from there he spent some time working for the forestry and then the lumber mill known as Cal Ida. The lumber mill was where Gene gained many friendships that lasted for many years to come. Being a lover of cars Gene found himself hanging around Auburn Auto Wrecking where he met the owners daughter and the love of his life Yvonne Jacobs. Before they knew it the two were going steady. Engaged on Christmas of 1957 and married in 1958. The two were blessed with three children, Gary Young, Cheryl Young, and Suzanne McClintock. Together the family enjoyed running the wrecking yard, jeep trips, and enjoyed the small-town life. In 1995 Gene and Yvonne decided to have a change of scenery; moving to Yuma Arizona where they retired together. Gene was an incredible husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. On January 31st, 2024, Gene was called to heaven. He is survived by his wife Yvonne Young, children Gary Young, Cheryl Young, Suzanne McClintock, 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He will truly be missed as he was loved by many. The funeral will be held on February 24th 2024 at 11am Los St. Paul Event Center at 645 S 2nd Av., Yuma, AZ 85364
