Lydia L.
Reyes
May 10, 1933 — Aug 7, 2024
Yuma
Surrounded by her loving family, Lydia L. Reyes went to be with her Lord and entered eternal
rest the evening of Wednesday, August 7, 2024.
Lydia was born in Dragoon, Arizona to Arturo and Eliza Lopez. On February 25, 1950 she
married her husband of 58 years, Horacio at the Yuma-Golden Marriage Bell Wedding Chapel
on Madison Street.
Lydia proudly served as a Navy wife for over 33 years, spending much of that time holding down
the fort while raising her daughters. She frequently said that she was a veteran too.
After her husband's retirement they returned to Yuma to call it home. Lydia returned to school
taking classes at Arizona Western College receiving a degree in Social Work at the age of 50.
She was employed by The Children's Center, Arizona Western College, Catholic Community
Services and the Yuma Reading Council.
Lydia lived a simple, quiet, and humble life. She found joy everyday cleaning her home and
reading her Bible until she couldn't any longer. Her priority in life was to love God and family, to
include extended family.
Lydia will be remembered for her kind, loving and generous spirit, always encouraging those
who had struggles in their lives to lean on God to find their way, to answer prayers and above all
forgive others.
Lydia is survived by her daughters Diana (George) Smith and Cynthia (Paul) Hirth. She is
preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Jessie, Carmen, Theresa, Antonia; brothers
Mercedes and Arturo.
A funeral service will be held in her honor on Monday, August 19, 2024, at Sunset Vista Funeral Home.
