Obituary

Michael C. Knefley of Wellton, Arizona passed away February 22, 2019. He was 77. Mike was born on February 14, 1942 in Albany, New York, the first child of Henry R. and Bernice A. (Bradford) Knefley. He was raised in Schenectady and graduated from Schalmont High School in 1959. He joined the Air Force in 1961 and was honorably discharged after 4 years of service.

Mike married Mary Lou Arcus in June 1968 and they had 3 children. They later divorced. On February 12, 1982, he married Nancy L. Freeman-Hauge in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. They have 2 children.

Mike worked for Norand Corporation in Cedar Rapids, Iowa as a materials manager. This job later took him to Southern California, where the family spent several years before returning to Iowa. Through the years, Mike had continually worked toward finishing his college education which he had put on hold to join the Air Force and he proudly graduated from Mount Mercy College in 1991.

In 2006, Mike and Nancy retired to Wellton, Arizona. Mike loved all sports, but especially enjoyed golf. Moving to Coyote Wash gave him the opportunity to play a lot of golf and where he also made many great friends. He loved to spend time with his friends and family, play Farkle, and tend to his "orchard" in the backyard.

Mike is survived by his wife Nancy; children: Nancy (Mitchell) Robson, Daniel (Laura Fons) Knefley, David (Christine) Knefley, Katy Knefley and Amanda Knefley; 7 grandchildren: Jacob, Sara, Jackson, Madison, Harrison, Shea and Leo; two sisters: Judith (David) Dempster and Martha (Ronald) Longo; and 5 nieces and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister-in-law Mary Freeman, and his mother-in-law Doris Freeman.

In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cedar Valley Humane Society in Cedar Rapids, Iowa: cvhumane.org/memorial-donations.
