Obituary

Penney Lou Bachmann
September 23, 1947 - May 11, 2026

Penney Lou Walker Bachmann was born September 23, 1947, to Richard (Dick) and Cecily (Tish) Walker in Yakima, Washington, and passed away on May 11, 2026, after a battle with dementia.

She was raised in Yakima and attended Davis High School, where she met the love of her life, David Bachmann.

Penney and Dave married in 1967 while Penney was attending St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing. From a young age, Penney knew she wanted to become a nurse, and she pursued that calling. The couple lived in Seattle during Dave's Coast Guard service before returning to Yakima. Penney put her nursing training to work in hospitals, clinics, and the Red Cross. Her favorite job was leading investigational drug studies for a rheumatologist.

They welcomed two daughters, Jackie and Jana, and family time was always the center of Penney's world. Many weekends were spent in high school and college gyms cheering on Jackie's volleyball. Penney also loved going camping trips across the Northwest in the family's tent trailer, visits with longtime friends around the country, and simple everyday joys like cheering for the Seattle Mariners, growing orchids, and shopping for pottery. At home she was happiest with a book, a paintbrush, crossstitch, or making cards for the  people she loved.

Penney had a gift for bringing people together. Whether it was a holiday meal, a summer gettogether, or a casual visit, friends and family knew they would be welcomed with good food, easy conversation, and her thoughtful attention to the details that made everyone feel at home.

Prior to retirement Penney and Dave cherished their time at their cabin at Goose Prairie and snowmobiling with friends. They were able to retire young and made the most of it. They spent many years traveling the country in their fifth wheel and mediumduty truck.

When their grandsons, Riley and Matthew, were born, Penney and Dave made it a priority to spend summers in Yakima and to be in the stands for as many baseball games as possible—from TBall, to their high school games, and Legion ball— the boys brought her tremendous joy.

Along the way they fell in love with bluegrass music and made lifelong friends through their travels. They later moved fulltime to Yuma, Arizona, where they found a second family of dear friends.

Penney was known for hosting great gatherings and for her wonderful cooking. She especially enjoyed the warm weather, morning walks, reading, cardmaking with friends, and going on sidebyside rides with Dave and their friends.

Penney is survived by her husband, Dave Bachmann; her sister, Pattey (John) Burry; her daughters, Jackie (Rob) Quincy and Jana (Michael) Clark; and her grandsons, Riley Quincy and Matthew Quincy.

Dave would like to thank the staff at Ativo Memory Care for their compassionate care of Penney over the past three years.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Penney's name to the Alzheimer's Association.
