Obituary

Shirley Nielsen, of Yuma, Arizona, born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, February 19, 1947, left us September 22, 2018  after a long hard fought battle with Dementia.  She has gone to Heaven to be with the loved ones that preceded her.

Shirley left her loving husband and soulmate Daniel "Maytag"; two sisters, Connie Waage & Kathy Willard; her son and daughter-in-law Wade and Cynthia Nielsen; her grandchildren, Kristen & Tyler Martinez and Allyson Nielsen-Zuran; and six great grandchildren.  They will be charged with carrying on the legacy that Shirley left behind, the biggest of which is riding Dan's case to make sure he does what he is supposed to do, how he should do it and when he should do it according to Shirley's point of view!

Daniel & Shirley took advantage of many opportunities during their time together living in a variety of locations related to Dan's career.  This opened new doors and new adventures (even though Shirley went kicking and screaming through some of them!) that created a lifetime of wonderful memories throughout the Midwest, Southwest and West Coast, some included family at times and some included friends, ALL of them included people that were very important in their life.

Shirley is preceded by her son, James Daniel Nielsen; her parents, William & Mable Vogt; her brother Lyle Vogt; her sister Ardis Brantner; Dan's parents Gilbert and LaVonne Nielsen. Those of us left behind will miss her, but take comfort in knowing she is now with loved ones and waiting for us to join her someday. Her wishes were to be cremated and plans are being made for a celebration of life on February 16, 2019 in Yuma, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Southwestern Palliative Care & Hospice.
