Obituary

William 'Bill' F. Bonsky, retired Lieutenant Commander of the U.S. Navy, was called home to be with the Lord on September 28th, 2024, at the age of 92. Born in Detroit, MI on December 15, 1931, Bill lived a life guided by service, family, and faith.

On December 15th, 1954, 'Skee' married the love of his life, "the girl in the red shorts", Shirley (McNulty), and together they shared nearly 70 years of devotion and companionship. He is survived by his wife, and children, William E., Lynda Mueller, Michael, and David. He is preceeded in death by his son James. Bill was a proud and loving grandfather to Sarah Edwards, Jason, Shawn, Leonard, Lynda, Justin, Jamie Mueller-Smith, Jennifer, Kam, Stefanie, Brent, Michael, Mikayla, Taryn, and Ryan, as well as a beloved great-grandfather of two dozen great-grandchildren.

Known for his stoic demeanor, Bill's life was defined by a deep sense of duty, charity, honesty, and wry humor. A lector at his church and active in his community, Bill gave his time quietly, a man who lived by his principles without seeking praise. He was proud of his military career, continuing to volunteer and support the US Navy after his 22 years of commission. His family and friends knew they could rely on him no matter the challenge, and his enduring presence will be greatly missed.

In keeping with Bill's wishes, there will be no memorial service. His family invites those who loved him to honor his memory in their own way and to keep him in their prayers.

Bill will be missed by all who knew him, but his memory will be cherished by those he loved and those who loved him. Fair winds and following seas.
